They have tried to make it more "interesting" and "engaging" by jazzing the textbooks up ... but it has been wildly overdone.
When I learned ..or rather, didn't learn, French/Latin/German at school back in the dark ages, the textbooks were uniformly dull as ditchwater and boring boring boring, as were the teachers.
All they wanted was for us to SHUT UP ... there was loads of copying out, reciting verb conjugations and the like, writing down long lists of words and doing "dictation" ..where the "teacher" read out of a book and we wrote it down ..... usually terribly in my case.
The sad truth is, in those days, most of the teachers didn't give a shit whether we passed or failed ... in fact, they often gloated about how we would fail !
And as for Latin ... I got dragged out of the classroom by my (long) hair half way through the 4th year, and was never allowed back in !!
That's education for you.
BUT ... the Science/Maths teachers were generally much better. Except that one who ran out of his classroom, punched me twice in the face, and ran back in again. I don't know what that was about !
Ah yes ... those lovely nostalgic memories !
So ..I'd like to see these " new-style" language text books ..but I doubt that they will be much better.
So that's that sorted ... or not. And now, the music ...
