I'm going to show you how it works using the start of a sample game in which someone who knows what they are doing plays against a twit.
The twit, although he has been told the rules, can't get them in to his thick head. For comedy and educational reasons..... here's the game so far, then I'm going to run you through it to show you what you do .... the first play, by the person who knew what he was doing, was RENTRE. it scored a massive 6x6 =36 ! That's because in Woosh your score is simply the number of tiles you've used squared ... he put 6 tiles down, so he gets 6 x 6 = 36 points.
All the triple-letter squares etc, all the double-word stuff, even the points on the tiles, they don't matter. It all hinges on the number of tiles you use, so it encourages you to make long words, not complicated ones.
The Twit hadn't really got the idea ..so he played PAR down onto the first R of RENTRE. That put the P on a triple-letter square, but of course all he scored was 2x2= 4 because he only used two of his tiles.
Next, Smartypants did ENTIER onto the end of RENTRE getting 6x6=36 again. The Twit made BOIS using 3 tiles and scoring 9 ... he still didn't realise that the B on the triple wouldn't get it. That's what comes of not listening. So far 72 points to 13. Ouch.
Now Mr Clever did FRAPPER and got 36 again, and The Twit did AZUR and only got a measly 9 again ... the Z doesn't get it's double-letter score. It's 108-22 now.
BAHUT scored 25 for CleverClogs but MES only scored 9 for The Twit.
NIVEAUX scored 49 against The Twit's 4 points for ZUT. [182-35]
VIVEUR (25) was at last matched by The Twit's CRAYON (25) [ 207-60]
FEMELLE (49) easily beat the Twit's MENS (9 ) [256- 69]
You can see all the mistakes he Twit has made ... for example, he thought he would get all the points for CRAYON as well, but of course he doesn't. Also, you've probably noticed that MC has scored 256 in only 7 goes! Without using any strange words. Plus .. they've used a third of the tiles in that time .... it speeds up the game.
You've probably also realized that you could play this with bananagrams tiles as the letter points don't matter .. in fact you could play it without the board at all if you lined your letters up neatly.
Here's what the board looked like a bit later ....
I thought I'd put this beautiful song on the end of this post... but on looking back I see that I haven't ...so here it is .. Kate and Anna McGarrigle with "Ce Matin" ...
Lovely words as well. Perfect .
